Peter Pan on Broadway

D and I celebrated Valentine's Day early this year.  Last week, we went to see Peter Pan on Broadway here in Chicago.  It was so much fun.  I grew up loving Peter Pan but I had never seen the stage play live until now.  I felt like a kid on Christmas morning, bouncing in my seat with excitement.

As far back as I can remember, Peter Pan has always been my favorite fairy tale.  When I was younger, I didn't want to grow up.  I was determined to stay a kid forever and live with my parents.  I don't know if it was because of my love for the story of Peter Pan or if my love for the story spawned from my refusal to grow up but I have never seen or read a portrayal of Peter Pan I didn't like.  I watched the Disney version over and over.  We had a recording of the stage play when I was younger and I watched it so much that I wore out the tape.  The book is one of my favorite books.

Obviously, I did grow up but my love for make believe and fairy tales is still very much a part of me.  And Peter Pan is still my favorite story of all time.  So when D came home and told me that Peter Pan was in Chicago, it was a given that we would go.  I love live theater but we don't get to go often because it's not in the budget.  I loved every minute of it.  Sitting there in my seat, I took a trip back to my childhood.  The set was different than it was in the video I watched so long ago but the script and the music was the same.  I often found myself singing and humming along in my head.

It was definitely a fun night and I'm so glad that we were able to go.  I came home and immediately ordered the Disney version that just came out of the vault.  I can't wait until it gets here so I can watch it.
