Military Monday: The FRG

This week’s installment of the Military Monday link-up is all about the FRG.  Cat from 5 Nuts in a Nutshell, posted a Q and A session she had with her FRG leader.  I thought it was very informative and interesting.

Personally, I don’t have much to say about FRGs.  I haven’t had good experiences.  But I haven’t had bad experiences either.  So this post should be rather short.

When D left for basic training, I really wished that I was involved with an FRG.  I longed for the interaction with other military wives.  I needed the support of others who understood what it was like.  But I just didn’t know where to start looking for one.

When D got assigned to his unit in Utah after returning from AIT, I was excited to be able to be a part of an FRG.  Unfortunately, his unit’s FRG was not that active.  There was an FRG leader but the group never had meetings or activities.  And I just wasn’t in a position to start one.

Then we moved to Illinois.  Again I was excited to be able to be a part of an FRG.  Unfortunately, as far as I know, the FRG here is not active either.  One day, I hope that it becomes active because I would love to be a part of it!

So there you have it… my lack of experience with the FRG.  But I do not have any negative opinions about it.  One day, I would love to be a part of an FRG.  I would even love to be a volunteer.  But, at this point in my life, it’s just not feasible.

Do you have experience with your FRG?  Write about it and then head over to 5 Nuts in a Nutshell to link-up!

I am really hoping that wherever the military sends us will have an active FRG. It would be nice to get emails and updates on the going ons and all that stuff. My husband's unit right now has an FRG that does the Christmas party and that's it. I think it is harder in the reserves because people don't live close together but all over the state.

I guess I will just have to wait and see what the future holds!
