Decluttering and Reorganizing

I live in a tiny apartment.  Like under 700 square feet tiny.  It's perfectly fine for just two people but adding a third will be difficult.  Until recently, we planned on moving from the city to the suburbs to get more space for a more reasonable price than we could get living in the city.  We even went as far as to start looking for our new place and found a few apartments we were considering looking at (even though our lease isn't up until May).  However, after thinking and talking about it, we've decided that we're still not sure about moving.  We've moved every year of our marriage so far.  And if D gets a position with the JAG Corps after graduation and he goes active duty, we'll most likely have to move around a lot.  Why not stay for another year in the same place that we already call home.

After talking about it, I began to look around our home, trying to figure out how we would make things work in such a small space.  I realized that we have so many things that we've never used since we moved to Chicago almost two years ago.  There are boxes and bins filled with who knows what just sitting on shelves waiting to be used or thrown out.  Our cupboards and closets are disorganized.

Don't get me wrong, we are generally clean people.  We're not hoarders or obsessive pack rats.  We don't have a lot of space but the space we do have could be used so much more smartly.  As I thought about this, an entirely "new" apartment popped into my mind.

So for the next five months, my big project is decluttering and reorganizing our apartment.  When I'm done, I'm hoping to have the home I envisioned in the apartment in which we live.  It will be no small order, but I'm up to the task.  Stay tuned for updates and pictures of our "new home."
