That Day I Got Attacked by a Bird

My husband loves to run.  He runs almost every day.  Sometimes I go with him, but usually I don’t.  It’s impossible to keep up with him and as someone who does not enjoy running at all, I always get left behind.

One day, a few weeks ago, D got up early to go running like he usually does.  On this particular morning, I chose to stay in bed.  He left and came back close to an hour later.  When he walked into the apartment, I was sitting on the couch in my pajamas eating cereal and watching the Disney Channel.  He looked at me and told me that a bird had attacked him while he was on his run.  Right there on the beach!  A crow flew up to him and clawed him right on the back of the neck.

Of course I asked if he was okay.  I checked out his neck to make sure that everything was okay.  And then, naturally, I laughed.  I had never heard of birds attacking people while they were running.  I felt bad for laughing but it was pretty funny.  Little did I know that I would pay for it later.

On the 4th of July, D and I were having a barbecue with some friends.  Our friends were running late and D was finishing up the ice cream so I left the apartment early to find a spot for us to sit in the shade.  As I was walking through the park, minding my own business, I heard a loud “caw” right in my ear and a big, fat crow struck me with his talons.  If I didn’t know better, that crow was out for blood because he struck me hard.  But then he flew away.  He attacked just once and then he was gone.  I didn’t even need to shoo him away.  He must’ve known that if he stuck around, he would’ve had to deal with my wrath… and that’s not something that anyone- human or animal- wants to deal with ever.

I’ve learned a valuable lesson through all this… always be on your guard and beware of the birds in Chicago.

That is hysterical! Wow.... Just wow. I can't believe it. You should also know to be aware of the squirrels in Chicago. They have been known to purposely throw nuts at people. I kid not. lol
