Harvey Lewis Christmas Ornament

Hubby and I have a tradition every Christmas of buying a new ornament for our tree.  We have been doing this since our first Christmas together as a couple.  We try to pick an ornament that represents the year we’ve had.

 

So, the day after Thanksgiving, after all the Black Friday shoppers had retired to their beds, we made our way to Target to pick out our ornament.  That is when we found this:

 

Ever since Hubby joined the military, I have been looking for ways in which I could get involved in the military community.  Unfortunately, being a Guard family, I’m finding it’s difficult to get involved.  We’re not surrounded by the military like we would be if Hubby was active duty and living near a base.  I would love to volunteer at an organization or get involved in the FRG.  Unfortunately, Hubby’s unit in Utah did not have an active FRG and I’m not sure how to get a hold of the one here.  And as far as I know, there aren’t any organizations close to me.

So, this year our attempts to get involved have been from a distance like sending letters and cards to wounded veterans at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital.  Don’t get me wrong, this is a great thing to do, but we’re always looking for more things we can do.

As soon as we read that, we knew that this would be the ornament for this year.  The patriotic flag represents our year well and it also benefits a great organization.  Sometimes I wish we had lots of money so we can donate to all these organizations.  However, since we obviously can't do that, I'm glad that we can still help out.
