Military Monday: Physical Training

I was going to wait until the morning to write this but since this stupid stomachache is keeping me from falling asleep, here's this week's installment of Military Monday.

Today's topic is all about PT- more specifically, helping your military member pass their PT test.  To be honest, this was a difficult topic for me.  I am lucky to be married to a man who loves to work out.  He has never come anywhere close to failing a PT test.  In fact, most of the time I never know when he is supposed to take a PT test until afterwards when he comes home and we both talk about what we did during the day.  So when it comes to helping him pass, I really don't feel like I have much of a part in it.  I mean, I do push him out of bed in the morning when he's supposed to get up and get ready for his ROTC PT class.  But that's mainly because I want him to turn off the alarm so I can go back to sleep.  (That may not count as support, but it's getting him out of bed to work out so I choose to say it is.)  So, tonight while we were on our way to the store while talking about something entirely different I asked him:

"How do I help you pass your PT tests?"

After a questioning look and a confused laugh which led to more clarification on my part he gave me a really good answer and helped to spark my imagination about the topic.

Hubby has a very large sweet tooth.  If it were up to him, he would eat cookies and ice cream, among other sweets, for every meal.  However, he just happens to be married to a girl who prefers healthier foods.  Because of Hubby's busy schedule, I do 95% of the cooking in our household.  I try very hard to cook healthy meals that also taste good.  Hubby told me that for him, that is the best way for me to help him do well on his PT test: helping him eat healthily.

When he told me that I thought, "Good!  I can do that!"  I love to cook, and experiment with new recipes.  This is an easy way for me to support him.  You see, I'm not a runner.  I do occasionally run with Hubby.  But it's not my favorite thing.  I prefer doing more interactive sports for my workout.  But I do suggest that if that interests you, definitely get out there and do it with your military member. It'll get you in shape and that's not all.  It's a good way to spend quality time with your spouse without other distractions getting in the way.

That's about all I have for today.  For more great suggestions on how to help your military member pass the dreaded PT test, head on over to 5 Nuts in a Nutshell.  I'm heading for bed (finally!) and hopefully will be more successful at falling asleep.  Goodnight friends!

I LOVE this!! And SO TRUE! We can really help our husbands out by just cooking healthy things sometimes. My husband has always passed the PT test too and it isn't a big deal, but my heart goes out to those wives who have husbands that can't seem to. Our big challenge was to get Ben's score high enough that he could participate in some of the more advanced training's -- and eating healthy was a HUGE part of that. Thanks for mentioning this!!!

Great posting, Allison!! My husband and I work out a lot together - its super easy especially because I train as an athlete for triathlons, so I'm always ready to hit the gym or run for a few miles.
And my healthiness goes all the way to cooking too, so we do eat actually super healthy.

It all comes together in a healthy lifestyle.

Hopefully you are feeling better soon, by the way!
